Johannesburg is South Africa’s cultural and economic centre. It’s a city summoned into being almost overnight by the Gold Rush, and still carrying that restless, built-fast energy, home to more people than any other city in the country, drawn from every province, and increasingly, from across the continent and beyond.

The Noname Book Club is a Black-led abolitionist space that centres Black voices. The creator of Partial Arts, facilitates the Joburg chapter leading discussion on the book of the month and holding space for open, unguarded conversation.

The chapter meets on the last Saturday of every month at The Commune, a Pan-African bookshop and event space in Braamfontein that also houses independent South African publisher Inkani Books.
